September: Herbology

Ben looked around the greenhouse, fascinated by the glass walls and all of the desks lined up on the sides of the greenhouse. When it was his turn, he stood up and went to the front of the class and said, “Hey everyone, my name is Ben Coletti. I’m in Gryffindor House and well... I just became a big brother! My parents just had a baby girl named Hannah!” 

He thought about the next question and said, “I don't really know a whole lot about Herbology. To be honest the only things I know are the healing herbs and I only know that because my mom works at St. Mungo’s. She uses Dittany a lot… ‘cause it helps to make skin grow over a wound or injury that might have happened. Episkey is something else she’s used a lot ‘cause it heals small, painful injuries… Even something like Bubotuber pus is really good for healing.” 


“I’m really excited to learn more plants like the ones that my mom uses so that I can help her more, especially when my baby sister gets hurt or sick or something… Also I think it would be really cool to learn what plants could be used to protect someone.” 


The last question made him think a little. “If I were a magical plant? I know it’s kinda weird but I would probably pick something like Venemous Tentacula. It’s really powerful and moves around and is able to grab humans with its spiky branches. I think it would be a cool way to protect someone and maybe attack any enemies that come my way.” 


He smiled and looked around the classroom. “I hope to get to know all of you guys… If you need me… you know where to find me!” With that he went to sit down.

Introduction: Ben Coletti

B ackstory Ben was born in Hogsmeade to Marcus and Tanya Coletti. Both were magical and taught their son all about the wizarding world as he grew up, preparing him for Hogwarts. Ben became very interested in potions and charms at this age already, watching his father work as an Auror and his mother worked as a healer. His first showing of magic was when he was six years old. He had been at a park with some friends and his best friend was being bullied by some older kids. Ben became very angry and upset and all of a sudden dirt and leaves flew up from the ground and covered the bully so that he was messy all over. It didn't hurt him, but it definitely annoyed him! Defence Against the Dark Arts - Practicing Riddikulus

Before class, I found Shaun (a sixth year Gryffindor) and a fourth year Ravenclaw talking in the staircase. We were talking about previous Dark Arts classes, and how we never really knew what to expect. When it was time to get to class, Shaun and I realized that we didn't have our hats or our robes, so we ran up to the seventh floor, headed to our dorms and got what we needed, then raced to the third floor and up the Dark Arts tower. We arrived just on time and were quite proud of ourselves as the door locked behind us.  Tonight, we were told that we would be practicing the Riddikulus charm. This was a charm that would be used against boggarts. I was a little nervous, but joined the line on the left side of the room, my wand held out. I knew the wand movement and the effect it was supposed to have, but I hadn't practiced it ever, and knew that it was a third level spell.
